China's satellite navigation system application on the ground accelerates again Beidou is not just "navigation"

Almost back-to-back, China's Beidou has received two important news in the past month.

On August 31, the news from the sixth meeting of the Russian-Chinese Committee for Major Strategic Cooperation in Satellite Navigation said that China and Russia have launched cooperation in satellite navigation and that Beidou and GLONASS will become compatible and interoperable. This is considered to be a new mode of cooperation between global satellite navigation systems and a new starting point for the world to share the achievements of China's Beidou development.

At the beginning of August, the "Beidou Smart Maker Program", which is guided by the China Satellite Navigation System Management Office and sponsored by Qianxuan, officially opened up a package of Beidou's precise space-time technology capabilities to the outside world. This is considered to be another acceleration of the application of Beidou in China.

As of August 28, the program had received nearly 500 applications from enterprises and universities, and students from Wuhan University, Wuhan University of Science and Technology, Southeast University and other universities were even more aggressive. China Youth Daily - China Youth Network reporter found that Beidou-based technology applications are coming, but these applications are not the familiar "navigation" function, but rather the "new face" of things such as intelligent triangle signs, airport wheel gears and other things connected to things.

This is likely to be the latest trend of Beidou applications. The general public may not need to know the precise location of an individual, but the machines and objects that serve human beings do, and they can play a huge role in improving human productivity, said Chen Jinpei, CEO of Thousand Seeker Location.

In fact, on the day of the launch of the Beidou Smart Builder Program, industry experts, including Lu Mingquan, professor of electrical engineering at Tsinghua University, Xu Ying, PhD supervisor at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and Feng Shaojun, chief scientist of location integrity of the Thousand Seekers and member of the British Engineering and Technology Society, came to the scene to "stand" for it. The letter they sent to the community reads

"We are about to live in an era where every machine is becoming more 'human' as a result of digital upgrades. Just like humans, machines need to know where they are and what time it is. But the difference is that they need to know more accurate spatial and temporal coordinates, so that they can have a higher ability."

Chen Jinpei told reporters that high-precision positioning is one of the services that differentiate Beidou from other global satellite navigation systems such as GPS. "Today, whether it is cars, cell phones or drones, people have developed only 5% of their own precise space-time needs, and more than 95% of the innovations based on precise space-time have not been stimulated."

For example, the aircraft "wheel gear". Many people often fly in airplanes, but may not have noticed the "wheel gear".

Like cars on the ground, in order to avoid cars slipping, cars parked in the parking space, you need to place a stopper in front of the car. However, an airport can easily hundreds of wheelchair, it is not easy to manage. Due to the density of flights, the type of difference, the strength of the operator and other reasons, the wheel stalls of the leakage of gear, late gear, not gear and other safety hazards sometimes appear.

"What we want to do is to automatically upload the information of the airport wheel gear to the cloud platform, so that operators do not need to check the wheel gear one by one. Which position the wheel gear is in, whether it has been removed by others, whether it is in normal use and other information, the cloud platform knows." Wang Wei, general manager of Haiwei Technology, said.

His technology company, based on China's Beidou sub-meter high-precision positioning services and other Internet of Things technology, has developed an intelligent wheel gear. This technology can not only upload the position of the wheel gear in real time, but also upload information such as the status of loading, withdrawing, placing attitude, power, temperature, etc., so that the backstage management can know all the information of the wheel gear at a glance.

"We used to use GPS more, but the airport wheel gear has higher requirements for high-precision positioning, so we consider using Beidou instead. Now, the drifting result is much better than the original one." Now, Wang Wei's team is planning to extend the system to airports and railway stations around the world.

In his view, after the arrival of 5G, the application of the Internet of things will change dramatically, "the use of the Internet of things will definitely exceed the Internet, because the Internet is for individual consumers, while the Internet of things is for industry."

A small triangle warning sign can also become the epitome of the development of accurate space-time capability based on Beidou.

In traditional scenarios, when a vehicle breaks down on the road, the driver will place a warning triangle behind the vehicle. The relevant regulations require that when the driving vehicle fails to move, the triangle warning sign should be placed behind the car at the first time, at least 50 meters behind the car on urban roads, and at least 150 meters behind the car on expressways and highways, to remind the following vehicles to pay attention to avoid secondary accidents.

In 2018, the developers of Thousand Seek Location made a small modification to the triangle warning sign, built-in sub-meter level that is less than 1 meter BeiDou high-precision positioning services and communication module, the triangle warning sign "transformed", can achieve sub-meter level positioning and upload their own location, by transferring data into the Gaode Map system, Gaode Map can Quickly mark the location of the accident on the map, more timely and more widely alerted to nearby vehicles to avoid early.

According to the person in charge of the development of this intelligent triangle sign, Qianxun location website business director Gao Ze introduced, because of the use of high-precision positioning, high German map can accurately capture the location of the triangle warning sign, identify the direction of the lane where the accident, "for example, whether the direction is north to south or south to north, optimize the navigation route, convenient for users.

"In fact, there are many traditional industries like triangle warning sign manufacturers, manufacturing threshold is not high, but if they do some 'micro-innovation', like the intelligent triangle warning sign, perhaps you can turn yourself from 'Made in China ' to 'Made in China'." Gao Ze said.

Chen Jinpei said, the development path of the Internet of Things is divided into "connection" "perception" "intelligent" three stages, 5G let the Internet of Things device connection will become more stable, and more fine-grained degree of the Location awareness will be one of the necessary conditions for the Internet of Things.

"At present, innovation and entrepreneurship in the field of high-precision positioning, do not necessarily understand the development of the Internet of things. Those who know IoT development do not know high-precision positioning. But to do IoT, you can't get around the accurate perception of location." Chen Jinpei said that in the future, the high-precision positioning represented by China's Beidou will become a real helper for human beings, just like 5G.
